On Life and Love: Hugo Wolf’s Italian Songbook

Wolf’s cycle of 46 old Italian Songs have singers running the gamut of emotions as they explore intense love relationships. From jealousy, pride, and spite to flirtation, devotion, and old-fashioned serenades, the couples sing about all that love puts them through. Set in the confines of a modern office, the production will include supertitles of the German text (by Paul Heyse). Conceived by director Michael Rau and music director Grant Wenaus, On Life and Love: Hugo Wolf’s Italian Songbook will feature two pianists and seven student actors from the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions in NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
